the suburban has been running great . Last night my son went to 7/11 and when he got home he told me it had no reverse. All forward gears seem fine. Tranny is a 4L80E. Aperently this is a common problem with this tranny. HELP!!

 

When was it serviced last?? Fluid ok, it doesn't smell burnt or isn't low??

 

Don't know when it was last serviced . fluid level is good and fluid isn't burnt

test drive this morning.actualy not a test drive. on our way to Christmas dinner . hard shift 1st -2nd . not upshifting . sounds like it's time for a rebuild

 

They can go out that fast. If it did start slipping, the fluid will be a brown like color and smell as bad as it looks.

 

Yea mine did the same slipped a bit , then bang no reverse.. rebuild time.... make sure if you have it rebuilt change the pressure relief valve in the pump. if it sticks it can blow the insides out.
