Default 1993 6.5td Exhaust

I have been debating for a long while if I should upgrade the exhaust system on my truck.
I made a mistake and put on 3" pipes with Magnaflow muffler, but I kind of lost that diesel sound. The biggest reason I guess is the bends they made, by crashing the pipes instead of mandrel bend. The down pipe is stock, and just 3 inch down from there, what I was wondering if anyone upgraded to 4 inch system, and if there are benefits or just waste of money. I looked at the SSD stainless system for $499, would that be a good choice, or please I'm open to suggestions. Thanks a lot.

if you have a welder just do it yourself. on my 95 i did 4" after the downpipe to the back and i did it in just one long piece. with these trucks its pretty easy its just a straight shot back. try doing that on the 4" yourself and you can buy the 90's and 45's and stuff to make the bends. i did mine for 80 bucks and it looks good

if you dont bend it yourself dont get an ssd exhaust. try warpspeed or one of our vendors on this site. its cheaper too

Thanks for the tips, and Woody why not the SSD its 409 stainless steel, are they bad, or too expensive. I know warpspeed, its cheaper but also 14 gauge aluminum, and the SSD is 16 gauge stainless. Just want to do it once and right, I guess I dont know too much about exhaust systems.

Woody, the reason I asked is dont know if stainless makes a difference, I know they last longer. I talked to Wraspeed and the 4 inch system is $289, but its aluminum, so I dont know which to get. I mean can get the system, and the crossover pipes from Warp, and it will be cheaper that single system that SSD offers. I just wanted to know if quality is good with Warp compared to SSD. I thank you for the advice, its just so many choices that confuse me.

im sure ssd makes an okay exhaust system but they sell misleading parts and walt is not the most honest person. warpspeed makes alright systems too. to tell you the truth thats what im going to get this upcoming year when i got the money.

yes stainless makes a difference in longevity but quality aluminum isnt just going to rust away either, it will take a long time. plus i dont plan i keeping this truck ten years from now. if you can afford stainless and you want to keep your truck a long time then do it.

i think you should stick to ssd, heath, and warpspeed as your main exhaust choices. i forgot to mention that all warpspeed exhaust is a diamond eye exhaust. just rebranded and cheaper.

So yourself planning on warpspeed, I thought that as well, but Warpspeeds website shows those 4 inch pipes they look just like 3 inch pipes, so I dont know if their truly 4 inch or not.
But I think it will sound better than my current system, man since I made a mistake and had Waltz Muffler Shop put those 3" pipes with Magnaflow muffler on, the truck lost its diesel sound, and rumble like a gasser at the back. So maybe I should give Warpspeed a try and see what happens. Thanks man for your advice, and help.

pictures somwtimes are decieving. they wouldnt advertise a 4 inch system than give you something less if they wanted to stay in business long. ive heard good reviews on the system so its a pretty good bet it will be a good exhaust system. ilove that diesel sound too. best part of winter is waking up and starting the truck to warm it up and its rattling away

Well I guess its not that hard to decide, I mean the warpspeed exhaust is like $490 installed and SSD or the Heathdiesel is just $549 with the shipping for the system. But I guess I was worried about the look, you know stainless looks nicer, but the state I live in dont use salt for the winter, so aluminum will last as well. Man sometimes its hard to choose, but I guess you right if it sucked, they would not have been around for long. Gotta choose if I want to spent the extra $200, or not. I called Bill Heath, and he told me the system they sale its not even stainless, so gotta choose between SSD or Warpspeed. Woody, do you know maybe the reason I lost that turbo whistle at the back of the exhaust, I mean it just went away after 3" piping and Magnaflow muffler. Well hopefully I can tackle my tires and the exhaust at the same time, and did promise to post some pics of the engine bay. Thanks man for your help.
