well depending on your model of 3/4 ton you either have a semi floating 14 bolt or full floating 14 bolt. light duty models have the semi floating like my truck and hd models having the full floating.
now if the 2000 silverado is a old body style 2500 it will fit. if its a new style it wont.

hahaha thats funny. LSD= Limited Slip Differential. and the only was a 2000 axle could work in a 1996 is if its a gmc sierra classic. newer generations have completely different axles, not to mention disc brakes. you can make it work by moving spring perches but the axle lengths are a little different. it is possible though. and if it has rear discs itd be worth it. just make sure your not putting a weaker axle in your truck if you haul. your best bet to make it an lsd rear end is just to buy a carrier from a 88-98 axle and just throw it in your housing. that way you could probably get someone to ship on to you because the carrier is small enough to ship

more importantly if its an 8 lug is it a semi float 9.5" ring gear (oval shape pumpkin) or a 10.5" full float (odd shaped pumpkin) that will also matter. either of those axles have a wide variety of aftermarket accessories (I.E. Lockers etc). as woody said, a locker is a much better option than a limited slip, especially if its a g80 limited slip from the chevys theyre garbage
