Default 6.5 stalling

just bought a 98 suburban. The yesterday morning when I was leaveing work it started fine. after a few min. it stalled . It was hard to start then it would stall again. This happened several times.Afterabout a 1/2 hour it started fine and I was Able to make it home [4 miles]
I took it out later that afternoon. It started just fine but started staling again.I am new to diesel. From what I've read here and on othersites it sounds like the pmd. The pmd is mounted on the pump. there is another one with heat sink mounted on the driver side fender. This one is not connected. The pump was replased in 06 .

any thoughts?
can I unplug the one on the pump without pulling the intake?
