Default 6.2l Blazer mileage

My 82 Blazer 4x4 with a 6.2l is averaging 12.5 mpg. It seems to me that I should be getting better than that. What is normal for for a 6.2 4x4? What can I try to get better mileage?

it should get 20 MPG to 22 MPG. do you have any big tires or lifts on your blazer. how do you drive it.

I have 12.5x33 tires. No lift on it. I plan on lifting it, but have not done so yet. Anyway, I wouldn't think that 33" tires would be big enough to hurt the mileage that bad. As another question, is there any difference between the transmissions for the diesel vs gas, or is a 700r4 a 700r4?

Well, I have determined that my speedo is off by almost 10 mph so I have been driving on the highway at almost 80 when I thought I was running 70. After slowing down a little and adjusting for the mileage diff my mpg is now a more liveable 14-15. Still a little lower than I wanted, but much better. Maybe I will slow down a little more and see what happens!

200.4R.....700R4. Big tires will hurt the mileage a little. Got one in a 1/2 ton Chevy, 3 spd Muncie, and super swampers. Can get about 200-220 miles to about 12 gal of fuel.
