Default spec for fuel return line flow

Ok guys got a problem with white puffs of smoke at idle and a good amount of it at cruising speed. Im trying to do a return line flow rate test but cant find a spec. This is of corse that there is one.. i do it on commonrail cummins at work but i cant find a good spec for my DB2 6.5.... anyone got a good acurate spec for me? It fills up a 1qt jug in about 2.5 min....

using common rail tests on a idi diesel doesnt make sense. its bypassing fuel back to the tank from the pressure regulator. should be allot at idle. white smoke is low combustion temps. Low compression, retarded pump timing (timing chain slack or failed advance piston/bore), or malfunctioning injector (although i doubt it is this). Advance the pump timing or manually operate the advance solenoid to see if it stops.

Thats what i needed to know... it only dosent make sense if you know its not right... i just assumed there was a spec for it. Obviously i knew it would be different but i couldent find any information on any testing procedures other than if your pumps wore out it will have "too much" or "a lot" of return fuel.. timing set is new, so no excessive slack. I took it in to get it timed properly as i diddent want to buy the timing set but i have my misgivings on if it was done properly.

White smoke is just a sign there isnt enough heat to burn all of the fuel. Compression, timing, or too much fuel (like a injector stuck open or leaking allot). Could crack each injector lose at a time to cause a misfire and see if the smoke goes away with one. Need to figure out if its a single cylinder issue (compresson injector) and a system issue (timing). Can also (as a test) just advance the pump timing all the way to the stop and see if the smoke goes away and/or manually activate the advance solenoid.
