Can't get my my 98 6.5 started It has the block heater and a magnetic oil pan heater on it and two brand new batteries! It barely wants to crank! I ordered new glow plugs but am not at home today so any help in the right direction would be nice for when I get home!

Corroded battery cables and maybe bad starter?

 

I'm thinking its the new batteries actually cause I put them in my 05 Cummins and it barely turned over too gunna take them back and try the new ones

 

Always have batteries load tested when you pick them up. I've had way to many new, bad batteries in the last several years.

Testing for voltage doesn't do any good. I've had batteries that tested good for voltage before and after a non-start

A load tester is a cheap diagnostic tool to have around. It can pay for itself in reduced trips to the parts store.

I bought a couple of good quality load testers on Ebay for in the $30 range

I've heard that Harbor Freight also has a decent Load tester - cheap

I have a HF digital load tester less than $30 works great And if you have 1 bad battery replace them in sets

 

You want to disconnect the battery cables and load test them separately about 20 minutes after charging. Sometimes they test good immediately after charging and test bad after about 20 - 30 minutes

 

Cheap diognosis to see if theyre bad, pop caps off and put an alka-seltzer in each one and see if it cranks after that. Causes a chemical reaction with the permeable layers and keeps battery strong for a while if starting to go bad.
