The electronic timing has to be set with a tech 1,tech II with OBD1 expansion pack or GMTD ScanTech pro version ONLY.

The only way to know what the timing is really,is to do a TDCO relearn with an above mentioned scan tool.

I don't know how anyone could determine advanced or retarded timing on their own?
Even using another scan tool that will display the stored TDCO value is in no way an accurate way to determine timing since it could very well be an old stored value that has nothing to do with the IP 's physical position.

To answer your question more directly,to retard the IP it needs to be loosened and rotated towards the passenger side, tightened and then the TDCO relearn needs to be done with the above mentiones scan tool.

Very small rotaion makes big changes eg: 1mm of movement translates to about 2 degrees of timing change.

Sorry to say that it can't be done with basic tools.

There is no way to set injection timing on a 94/95 electronic IP other than the scan tools mentioned above.

If you own a 94/95 6.5 you really should invest in the software/cable that goes with GMTD ScanTech pro version.

$160 for GMTD ScanTech
$60 for the cable

There is a way to make the cable for about $10 also but is a little crude.

Since the vendor is not a site sponsor I can't post the link but PM me if you want the info.

The ECM has to learn where the IP physically is situated at to control timing and to even report the timing to a scan tool.

The problem arises when the IP is moved or replaced-there will be a timing value in the computer that it thinks is correct and no matter where the IP's actual location is in relation to the crank the ECM won't know a change has been made unless it is commanded to relearn the new IP location-ONLY the above mentioned scan tools have the ability to force that relearn on a 94/95 6.5 electronic IP engine.

What about KOKO procedure to force relearn? I guess you still wouldn't know actual timing without tool

Default new injectors

if your friend just changed injectors and hasn't drove the truck because of the knock, he needs to just drive it and the knock will go right away. i did my 95's and when i started it she knocked and smoked so i shut it off. only a good friends advice who is a diesel guru would i drive the truck with that noise it was making and with in a klm it went right away.
