Only taillights? Or no parking lights too?
Stock lights? Stock rated fuse?
Immediate blowout or only when you get up to speed?

I have no tailight or parking light nor dashlights as you know it stays darker longer but the micro fuse in the dash or pk lmps is a 20amp and blow when you turn the lights on

Short to ground. I had one on my front right parklight. If 97 is wired similar to my 93, when park light fuse blows, power is cut to dash and tails. Unplug all park lights and tail lights from the harness. Replace fuse and turn on lights. If fuse blows, it's a short to ground in the harness. If not, start plugging in the parking lights, one side at a time. Reinstall light housing before moving to next light. When you plug in the problem light, you'll know. Good luck!

Ok quick update here still have no tailight/parking lights and have no trailer lights the pigtail is still plugged in from the factory after owning 3/4 tons and up a half ton truck isnt for a doodoo towing IMO but have narrowed it down to the harness running along side the drivers frame rail (I think) have to chip 200lbs of dried mud first to get to all of the harness so I am curently just using a backup truck till I can get back to looking at itbut thanks for all the help so far
