Default auto transmission stuck in first?

I was driving home today running 55mph everything was normal then out of no where the tranny drops to first and wouldn't shift up, tried manually shifting, restarting the truck nothin it would never leave first gear, I didn't hear any grinding or banging or anything its just dropped to first, anyone have any ideas as to why it did this?

Ok I believe I have an electrical issue, my tachometer isn't working, my volts aren't even reading and my battery light is on, and today I went to move the truck when I but my foot on the brake the truck almost died and I floored it and the truck barely moved at all and I tried to roll up my windows (power) and the truck died, now my question is, would that be the alternator or batteries or both?

Check the grounds especially the one on rear passenger head my 94 had a issue with the trans turned out to be the ground on the cylinder head

Ill definately have to check that, I just went and had the batteries load tested and one was shot and the other was ok at best, not great by any means

Does anyone know if bad batteries would cause these problems?

I dont know if bad batteries will cause the problems you are having but bad grounds will kill the life of a battery
