There is no valve adjustment available, they are hydraulic lifters that make up the lash setting within their bore/piston combo.

These engine do have diesel rattle that is pretty pronounced.

One problem that does occur in the valvetrain and that is the nylon locating washers fail over time and that can let rockers wander on the shaft and loose contact with the valve and pushrod giving you a miss and a rattle best case.

Racer55, could this "nylon Locating washer" cause the cylinder to stop firing, I have a 92 6.2. 130k, that just developed a dead miss, front cylinder on passenger side not firing, pulled injector and it checked out, makes no knock, no tick, no more blow by than before the miss, not coughing back through intake, looks like a chore to get the rocker covers off, so I have not started that yet, any thoughts?

Thanks

Sounds like a good place to start looking.

Racer55

pulled the rocker cover today, intake valve plastic/vinyl retainer out to lunch

any reason to think something caused the failure?

I plan to replace them all, the one that broke, rocker is spinning on shaft, push rod just hanging out, what is the best, easiest way of getting the rocker and push rod back in place

Thanks

They just get old and weak and shatter.

Undo the rocker shaft evenly from end to end, replace the spacers and then re install the shaft by aligning the rockers and pushrods and slowly and evenly tightening down the shaft to spec.
