Default Hard Starting

Hello every one

New to the forum and looking for a little help. I have a 1983 Chevy suburban with 6.2 L engine. The problem i have is it takes three some times four times for the engine to start. I changed primary and secondary filters also lift pump thinking one of the three would solve the problem, filters needed changing anyway, bled system for air. For first few days it would start up on first crank, thought i had the problem solved, then back to 3 or 4 times to start up. Seams like its losing its prime after sitting a day or two, if i bleed secondary filter it will start first crank. I don't use the vehicle every day so that's not helping the problem any. I checked to make sure the tank was holding pressure and when i unscrew the fuel cap i heard the pressure release. Glow plug light initially stays on for about 5 seconds then on and off about a second.
Any insight on what the problem could be? I'm stumped now

I'm not a wealth of knowledge so maybe someone else will chime in and support what I'm about to say, anyways it kinda sounds like to me ur having an issue with ur injectors it sounds like they r letting too much return in, but I could be completely wrong

The main reason i am trying to solve the problem is its very hard on the starter and duel batteries.

If you here pressure releasing when you take fuel cap off thats bad,you should not have pressure.Replace cap with diesel rated cap.

The fuel cap i got was for 83 chevy suburban 6.2 diesel from auto zone. Are you saying the fuel tank shouldn't have any pressure at all ? I did get under the vehicle and tightened hose clamps before the lift pump, there were 6 clamp total, hoping i wasn't drawing air before the LP but didn't seem to help. Still takes three times cranking to start after sitting all night.

Sounds like you have a fuel leak between the filter and IP or you have too much vacuum in the fuel tank sucking fuel back after shutdown and letting air take it's place.

Get a diesel rated fuel cap from the dealer-they are properly vented.

Try running with the fuel cap loose and observe the results?

Does anyone know if the tank should hold pressure or vacuum?

Should be a minuscule amount of vacuum.
