taping top of Rear Differential for Oil Change

taping top of Rear Differential for Oil Change

Probably a stupid question but why shouldn't I tap the top of the rear differential so that when I fill it with oil it gets full?

Because it's meant to be filled to the fill hole, fill it full and you won't keep seals in it
