Default How to completely flush the coolant system

I read through the old threads and nothing seemed to address a complete flush of the coolant system. I also looked through the service manual and did not find the engine block drain plugs. I plan on flushing my cooling system this weekend and replacing the coolant with CAT coolant. My plan of action is:

1) ensure coolant system is at a safe level
2) drain radiator
3) remove and drain radiator hoses
4) drain engine block if I can find the plugs
5) refill with distilled water (about 8 gallons)
6) add coolant flush
7) run for an hour or so
8) repeat complete coolant drain
9) refill coolant system with distilled water
10) run for a half hour
11) repeat complete coolant flush
12) add concentrated CAT coolant (4 gal)
13) add 4 gal of distilled water
14) replace thermostat

Any one know the location of the engine block drain plugs?
Any suggestions of improvements?

Go to your local parts supply and buy a flush Tee that connects to the heater hose outflow.

Buy a section of 1/2" hose and 2 female garden hose ends and connect them together.

Open the rad petcock and drain coolant then splice the flush Tee into the heater hose and connect the short hose and a garden hose to your household spiggot.
Close the petcock.

Remove the thermostats and run water till it flows clear from the Tstat housing and replace the cap on the flush Tee,you can flush the fill tank and rad at this time if you like by covering/stuffing the Tstat housing with a cloth rag and running the water into the fill tank and running water till it comes out the upper rad hose clear.

Drain the rad again and close the petcock, remove the rag and begin filling the with coolant untill you get a color change at the Tstat housing-install the Tstats and upper hose/housing cover and continue to fill.
Start engine when the full cold level is reached in the reservoir and top up if the level falls.

Take it for a drive to operating temp and ensure the tank is now full to the hot line.
new AC Delco Tstats should be used and check their operation occasionally as it comes up to temp-holding teh upper hose will let you know if coolant is flowing-it will get hot.

im picking up my first diesel on tuesday its a 94 6.5L turbo diesel, and i have been reading alot of threads and it seems like everyone is concerned the most, with keeping their engine cool. and i see that a D'max fan and severe fan clutch are common mods along with doing a radiator flush, i dont know if i am going to do the really complicated flush, and i might just stick a hose in the top of the radiator and let it flow for a while. maybe drain and refill it a few times? how important is it to do the whole running the engine with tap water thing? what exactly does that do?
