6.2 diesel glow plug relay LOUD
#21
No it didn't. It just sparked like crazy. I did turn my IP up between 1/8 and 1/4 and it cranks sooooo much easier now. The plugs don't even have to be on few ten seconds and it fires right up. So the noise isn't so prolonged now, but still annoying. This is gonna be a semi-daily driver and I don't want everybody staring at me when I go to crank it... So I don't know if I should even mess with this thing anymore, or just go with the ford solenoid. I have no clue what glow plugs are in it and am too broke to buy any. So how would I go about wiring the ford one?

Wire the ford solenoid like this:
The wiring from the toggle should be a wire from the battery side heavy terminal to the switch and back to the small S terminal on the solenoid.
The other heavy terminal should be the glow plugs power wires.
The other small terminal on the solenoid is not used.
What you would now have is known as a "manual glow plug override".
An even better quality solenoid is a constant run snow plow solenoid, but pay attention to the wiring-some are switched ground and some are switched power, also a starter momentary switch or bump button is safer to use than a toggle unless it is a spring loaded one that always returns to the off position.

Not sure where you would find the snow plow solenoid in your area but a good parts guy with a Cole Hersee catalog should be able to look it and the push button up and get it ordered.
Or let me do it for ya:
Solenoids & Relays | Steel & Phenolic Body Solenoids24213 | Cole Hersee - Littelfuse
Push-Button Momentary Switches | Normally Off Push-Button Switches9095 | Cole Hersee - Littelfuse
No good idea what the price would be,been a couple years since I needed 1.

Ok thanks... I looked at autozone and the ford ones are fairly cheap. And what about a push button from lowes?
Also, look here... I found a few solenoids that look like the one in the like u showed me. Are they the same? And what about the three terminal ones? Also, what do I do with the two wires in the two pin clip in my current setup?

Ok... The one I was looking at didn't have a rating, this one:
Wells Manufacturing/12 Volt solenoid starter switch with three terminals and grounded base (U1457) | Solenoid | AutoZone.com
If the amp rating was high enough could this work?

All of the cole hersee solenoid on their site are 85a
