Default blocked wastgate?

I have a 96 6.5 with stock turbo, 5" exhaust, and intake. I blocked the wastgate to see if it would give it a little more get up, but i couldnt tell a difference. I dont have gauges, but i can feel and hear the motor fine. Just wanting to know if Im even doing anything, good or bad, by blocking off the gate. Also, on another note, how to i get my turbo to be a little louder? silencer ring is gone, i already have intake and exhaust, what else do i need? Thanks

Blocked wastegate? So you mean you have it died so its always closed? To me, this is a bad idea, and is what the previous owner of my truck did. You are lossing gas mileage, and will definitely hurt your truck in the long run, especially since you dont have a boost gauge. Your best bet would be to get a turbomaster and max-e-tork set to 15 psi max. In regards to the turbos on these, they dont get very loud. What you have, is about as loud as its going to get.

Tying the wastegate shut is a bad idea, overboosting creates high IAT's and helps blow head gaskets.

You need a boost gauge first before you make any changes to the boost system,it will at least let you know if you tied it shut or open and if you made any gains over what you normally have.
