Can you tell me which sending unit this is it located on passenger side head at back and were i can find a wire diagram of it to trace wires, thinking ground in wires would be from it back toward the starter wire

If you were to post a picture of it,it would help.

I am leaning towards it being a glow plug sensor, but that is only used on mechanically injected engines in my experience.

A diagram from a 92,93 6.5 would be what you are after if that is the case.

Does your truck have an electronic throttle peddle or a cable connected to it?

Ok so you do have mechanical injection, that would indicate that your system is equivalent to a 92,93 6.5 and the wiring diagrams should match them.

Here is the switch again I believe:
DriveWire

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

This outside post explains that switch when used on a 6.2-should be the very same on yours:
Diesel Place : Chevrolet and GMC Diesel Truck Forums - View Single Post - Cold start advance on IP

With that info it would still seem to me that you have wires melted together inside the wire loom somewhere.

Duplicate of the above posts, what in those answers did not apply to you?

Also you should be looking for a short circuit to power-not a ground.
