Default 1996 Suburban optical sensor

Help! I have been chasing gremlins from bad grounds to a leaking fuel heater and need help on and optical sensor problem. I removed the sensor to check if it was dirty and it looks okay. My question is this: While taking the optical sensor bolt loose I noticed that the piece it attaches to can pushed the drivers side or passenger side (this is with the bolt tight). This seems like it would allow the timing to change easily. Is this normal or once should this piece no move at all?

Any help is appreciated.

Yea the OS is not to be touched as it is what you use for timing. The DS4 IP which is what you have shouldn't be tampered with I think you want it 2mm away from the eye but I would do my best NOT to touch it

Thanks guys but you were too late. I had already pulled the OS. I match marked it by scribing a line beside it. The issue I was asking about whether the OS should move side to side when it bolted down properly. I called Tim at www.AccurateDiesel.com - Accurate Technical Services, LLC and he assured me that the movement is normal. I put the OS back in and primed the system and the truck started right up. Tim suggested putting a clear section of hose between the filter and the IP to see if bubbles are present. I'll try that next.
