First things to check/change/and upgrade??
I just picked up a 1992 Silverado 1500 4x4 its a manual with a 6.5L Turbo...It has 201,xxx miles. I've done a couple searches on here and couldnt find anything...But I was just wondering what are the first things I should Check/change/and upgrade?

Also is there a good "how to" thread on the 6.5L Turbo motor anywhere on this forum? I'm great with cars and can build a motorcyle from scratch but diesel is very foriegn to me....Things like simple maintenance, replacing older parts, turning up boost, turning up fuel....I see alot of ppl talking about it when I search the forum but I dont see anything really breaking it down for the noobs....I've been making a list of first things to change out like Air fliter, fuel filter, oil change, belts, etc....but after thats done I'm going to start doing performance things like turning up the boost a little, adding boost, exhaust temp, and fuel pressure gauges, 4" turbo back exhaust, maybe a single stack....

Also will a #9 Calibration resistor work on a 92' model 6.5 TD? what is the difference between my 92 and the 94 on up models when looking for performance parts and mods? Sorry for all the noob questions

1994 model year started the electronic injection pump. these injection pumps used a pump mounted driver to control fuel. in this PMD, is where a resistor would be connected.
93 and prior had mechanical injection. no pmd, no resistors, optical sensor, boost sensor, engine control computer, or vacuum pump. IMO, a lot simpler and cheaper to work on.

You want to be careful with an older truck like these a 6.5 is very tempermental turning up the boost on it may cost you some head gaskets or worse if you baby the truck it will be around a long time my bud had one as a oilwell service truck with 495,000 on it before the engine let go that would equate to double on a normaly used truck,he replaced the engine and they guy that bought it from him turned up the fuel and boost and within 6 months it was dead

yeah I dont plan on going crazy with performance parts or anything I just want somthing that looks good, sounds good, with some pep to haul bikes, daily drive, and mess around in the mud and on trails every now and then....it has that 6.5 turbo in an odd body so I'd like for it to surprise everybody if I romp down on it
