Police: Suburban Man Killed To Fake Own Death - News Story - WMAQ | Chicago

Police: Suburban Man Killed To Fake Own Death
Investigators Say Motive Was $5 Million Insurance Policy
Filed By NBC5's Anthony Ponce

POSTED: 12:45 pm CST March 6, 2008
UPDATED: 1:28 pm CST March 6, 2008

LAKE BARRINGTON, Ill. -- Police said Thursday that what was originally ruled an accidental death in Lake Barrington on Feb. 23 is something much more -- a "diabolical plan" that is "stranger than fiction."

At a news conference Thursday, officers said they believe the death of 20-year-old Justin M. Newman was actually a premeditated murder. They said the killer, 40-year-old Ari Squire, switched identities with the victim before he killed him and then assumed the victim's identity. Police said Squire was trying to stage his own death.

Officers said Squire and his wife, Denise, took out a $5 million life insurance policy a couple of years ago, and they believe this was the motive for the killing. They also said Squire and his wife had e-mail contact after the date of the death. She is considered a person of interest, police said.

Police caught up with Squire on March 2 at a motel in Missouri. When authorities knocked on his room door, police said, they heard a single gunshot. When they entered the room, officers found Squire had apparently committed suicide.

Authorities said Denise Squire has been "less than candid" with investigators.

Watch NBC5 News at 5 p.m. for more on this story from reporter Anthony Ponce.

In hindsight that said a lot about him.

Tracy pretty much sums it up, He was the nicest guy you would ever meet.
I wonder if the peacemaker actually had other meaning then we originally thought. Just looking at that picture of him pisses me off now.

No amount of financial trouble is worth doing this.

Ari 'WAS??' a good guy, so we thought. Most of us DMax guys meet him from all around and personnaly down here in Houston for the Drags and sled pulls. Very nice guy, good to drink a beer with.....so we thought. He 'died' and our hearts poured out to him and his family, now we find the truth and it's just heart wrenching.

And the truth is that he faked his own death then assumed the identity of someone that he killed , and when they found out he killed him self ? And it was all to get a Life Insurance Check

That is what is sounds like, but I am sure there are details that will still come out. Like Russel said he was a good dude so we thought. Skipp and I were talking about him just today about how we spent several hours with him in Houston last year.

What get to me though is the fact that he emailed his wife and asked how many people went to his service? That is just sick.
