Default 94 dodge 1500 5.2L thermostat temp

I know this is not a diesel but I was hoping someone could help me here. I replaced a water pump and thermostat on a guys 94 dodge ram 1500 5.2L. It was leaking real bad and he would just add water, when I got the truck there was barely any water in it. I changed both and now he called me and said the temp gauge always shows high, just below the red. he stopped and got me a new stat thinking the one I put in may have been bad. I checked the hose temps when he pulled in and both upper & lower were reading 190+-. but the heater hose reads 200++ with heat running. I looked at the new stat box and it is a 195, I also looked up on-line and that is what it calls for.

Question is why is it now showing high on the gauge now but ran normal before the replacement? did they have a colder stat in it, that is what I am thinking and should I just keep the 195 or put a 180 in it. I am going to flush the heater lines and core.
Thanks for any help!!

he probably didnt know where to put it.. 195 is the factory thermostat running at 200 is normal.. but i did find this for ya....maybe the culprit, ................burp the system by removing the pipe plug on top of the water pump. use a small funnel and add almost a gallon of coolant thru the small hole, till the coolant level comes up to the water neck . By doing this the system should burp twice. reinstall the pipe plug and radiator cap. run the engine and check temp readings.

FYI This is a bad designed by dodge with the filler neck in the upper radiator hose because of the angle of flow being lower than the top of the water pump and you can't add coolant with the engine running.

*if its still happening check for codes, theres also two sensors on each side of engine that could be faulty.
