jeep transfercase wont go on?
just asking this question for a friend,
he has a 96 jeep grand Cherokee, his old transfer case (np249) blew apart!
i went to the junk yard a pulled out a (np249) t-case from a 96 cherokee just like his.
our problem is, it slides on about 3/4 of an inch and stops!
no matter how much i shook it, pushed it, jerked it around...it will not slide on the tail shaft any further..
any ideas????

yes, i have put it in gear. and tried turning it while pushing it in.
is there a possibility the splines on the tail shaft are messed up when the old transfer case blew apart? They appear to be straight.
to me it feels like it's just no going on like it's sitting on the tail shaft of the transmission.
i have tried pushing up on the transfer and in at the same time. i'm either doing something wrong, or something is wrong?
