Sounds like it's one box in the same ... a single port router and modem. It is an intermittent problem and works sometimes, yes? It's really hard to trouble shoot something that is working. (And when it's broke he can't chat with us.)

What brand/model modem is it and who is your DSL provider? I know us dieselheads like to think we know everything, but you likely will get more detailed responses from another forum. Try http://www.dslreports.com/forums/all

 

its a siemens speed stream4100 ethernet ADSL modem. After doing some searching I have found that it is in fact a modem/router in one.

 

i've gone through 3 speedstream modems.... their QC department isn't up to par IMHO..... anyway i replied to your pm..... i'd bet money on the modem takin a crap on ya....
