I like Garmins... but mine are mobile. Handhelds might be different.

i dealt with a tom tom one this past week. works perty good other than some smaller towns it goes way off the deep end on.... it sent me 4 miles off course when going to Williston Florida. i knew how to get there but i decided to follow it's directions and see where it sent me.... the voice commands are nice, it'll auto correct the ETA, Mileage, and new directions if you miss a turn or decide to take a different road. it's voice commands get real annoying if you vear off it's course..... all in all it's not bad for the $140 that the guy i know paid for it....

I know nothing about these things. So when I buy a GPS do I also have to buy the Maps? This is my first one so I think I may stick to a cheaper one to see if im even going to use it much before I spend the cash on a expensive one. I just want one that is easy to change from vehicle to vehicle. Nothing bulky.

this is the one that i've used. very user friendly, touchscreen, it'll locate hotels, though not real accurate as so many hotels change so often, no maps to buy with this one. this is really all you need. to me there is no need to have a big screen if you are listening to the voice commands. it'll tell you to keep right or left turn right or left and tell you how many feet before you turn.......

The garmin 60csx is the newer model of mine. It just has room for a memory card, other than that I believe it is the same as the 60cs. Mine is completely portable. I did have to buy a RAM cradle & windshield mount.

I guess the biggest thing is what you will use it for. There are many different software types available for GPS's, some come with software, some come with a basic map set also.

I use mine to make deliveries all day long, some times as many as 50-60 stops a day that I have never seen before, mine has definetely paid for it self many times now. You can take a look at www.garmin.com for software types that are available to.
