I have been in the Navy for 14 years now. We are going through a MAJOR downsizing right now. The Navy is still taking people, but many are on a 1 year waiting list. The other downfall right now is poor job selection. The Navy is taking in mostly undesignated personnel. That means you won't be trained in a job field other than something general, like seamanship or airmanship. If you can find a way to continue in school I highly recommend it. If you do decide to join, the Navy is a good career, as long as you really apply yourself. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask. The only thing I couldn't answer is about shipboard life. I'm a Seabee and have never been stationed on a ship. I'm what the fleet calls a dirt sailor.

Why not Delayed Entry? Guaranteed job in the field you want, you might have to wait a year to get it but this way you don't end up doing something for 4 years you didn't want to do.
And yeah, stick it out. You can easily pick up E-3 with the degree before your 6 month mark, and E-4 in under 18 months.

Go to the class, find someone nice enough to share the book with. Often times a lot of the schools will keep copies of the book in the library or at a study center too. Or sign up to get tutored, the tutor will surely have the book. I would sometimes split costs of books with classmates and just share a book, but it will depend on the class. Email the professor of the class and ask if the newest version is necessary or if you can use an older copy. Sometimes they will work with you on this stuff.
Make it work, stay in school and finish it up.
