I have been in the Navy for 14 years now. We are going through a MAJOR downsizing right now. The Navy is still taking people, but many are on a 1 year waiting list. The other downfall right now is poor job selection. The Navy is taking in mostly undesignated personnel. That means you won't be trained in a job field other than something general, like seamanship or airmanship. If you can find a way to continue in school I highly recommend it. If you do decide to join, the Navy is a good career, as long as you really apply yourself. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask. The only thing I couldn't answer is about shipboard life. I'm a Seabee and have never been stationed on a ship. I'm what the fleet calls a dirt sailor.

If you would like to be a Seabee, you would have to go into delayed entry because the billets are very slim right now. The website has a lot of info, but it is a salesman sight if you know what I mean. IF you have any specifics you want to know ask away. Also, what exactly are you thinking about doing? There are 7 different rates(jobs) within the Seabees. Builders, Steelworkers, Electricians, Plumbers, Equipment Operators, Mechanics, and Engineering Aides. I'm an Electrician, but the cool thing about the Seabees is all the cross rate training we do. Most of us can do a little bit of everyone's rate. My first 4 years, I pulled levers and pushed dirt more than I did electrical work.
