I would have to agree. One of them new inline guns with powder disks ya drop down the barrel. No fun for me! I'll take my powder flask, bore butter, and smooth ball rounds.

I have a reproduction Hawkins .50 and a reproduction 1861 Springfield .69. Never live fired the Springfield. Not sure I want to either, the Hawkins kicks like an angry mule tho.

Dad has another reproduction '61 Springfield, a reproduction .50, and a black powder double barrel shotgun. The shotgun's a two man operation. One to shot, the other to stand 20-30' and see if you hit anything. It kicks out a LOT of smoke. Good gun for hunting dove, tried it on turkeys but since it's a modified choke doesn't do so well unless their really close.

I use my Cabela's version of the 54 cal Hawkins with 50 grains and it puts me right on the money with a maxi ball for deer season. Had CVA 50 cal long rifle but never could get used to it bein that long so i sold it off for some truck parts money.

Bow and Muzzleloader is all I hunt with. I did use shotgun for small game but don't even really do that anymore. I also tried Flintlock for a few seasons, my hat's off to any of you guys doin that. It was a good thought but way to much work and trouble for me.

I used to be very good with my TC .50 Hawkin. Won lots of competitions with that rifle. Haven't shot it in several years now. I used to hunt with it, but it was pretty heavy and with all the polished brass, it was to hard to take care of while hunting.

I won a .50 cal Traditions Hawkin inline rifle w/ a synthetic stock in a raffle about that time. I started taking it hunting. I don't know if it was any more accurate than my old TC, but it sure is lighter to drag though the woods.
I've always cast my own maxi ***** or round *****. I've never shot sabots, just never saw the reason to. I've never hunted anywhere that allowed a scope on a muzzleloader.

Up here in the northwest the caps and flints are required to be open to the elements. No sealed breech percussion cap inlines for us in Washington, Oregon, and I believe Idaho.....

I have an inline .50 TC with the open cap---nothing a lil electrical tape can't cure if it's raining....
