Running a 1500 Watt Inverter requires some decent power wire as well. If you feed it with 8 gauge, it may create A LOT of heat in those wires. I believe you were saying the inverter would go in the trailer, beside the fridge, correct? If so, the wiring between the battery in your truck, and the inverter will not supports 1500 Watts very well. High chance of blown fuses, or melted wires. To do it properly, one should run something like 4ga. wire between the truck, and the inverter.

That's all my opinion though.

 

What do you figure they junk an RV because the refridgerator is bad ? It was just a suggestion, I have a generator for my camper but still run the fridge on propane it's better than runnin the generator 24/7 Besides he was lookin for a way to run the fridge goin down the road, therefore propane is the way to go !

 

The only reason I was saying that was because of all the flooding the last couple years (in my area anyways) a lot of campers were totaled out and are now sitting somewhere waiting to be parted out. So if he went some where and they did a search and found him one I would be cautious of it. It's all good Just my opinion, didn't mean it to come across the way you took it.

 

Thats cool I didn't take offense to your post, I was just explaining my idea a littlt better. Here in WNY we don't see a whole lot of flooding like some of you guys do. Propane is the best way to go in a camper though unless you just leave it on a site with electric all the time. I also couldn't justify 1400 for a fridge to use once a year.

Otherwise, inverters are real good things to have... I got two in my truck, one little ~200 watter that runs 100% of the time controlling lots of telemetry and valves and other knick-knack doo-dads and then a 2000 watt RMS Black&Decker that I have behind the seat on it's own battery that mainly operates my pressure washer/ 1250 PSI water injection system but also finds many, many uses operating power tools and anything else required. It's like a decent-sized generator wherever I go in my truck, very useful.

At 100% duty cycle it will draw more amps than the 150 amp alternator can put out however.


Black&Decker has a real good warranty... I bought one off eBay for around $120 that died real soon after I bought it, I called Black&Decker, got put through to DeWalt, asked if they knew what the problem was, they asked for the serial number on the bottom and then told me to take it in to the local Phoenix repair shop to get it warrantied. I did so, they said it was a discontinued item so they gave me ~$260 worth of cash credit for it.

So I bought another $120 one off eBay and have tried to use Black&Decker/ DeWalt whenever possible ever since.
