PA - switchblades are illegal, but you can buy the kits. The kits I've seen are not high quality by any means.
I have several butterfly knives. Not illegal as far as I know.
I have a Kershaw that opens as fast as any switchblade I've had, I mean seen.... Bought it at French Creek Outfitters. Very good quality knife....

Asissted opening is legal in all states, the front and side open, button activated, springloaded knife aka Switchblades are illegal for posession by any unlicensed persons. The license being an importer license making it legal to import merchandise into the US for re-sale.
I worked at a Frost Cuttlery store for a while and this was how it was explained to me. We sold them and it was perfectly legal to do. It was also legal for you to buy it, but you could not legally carry it out of the store. Go figure how this was expected to work.

Its a very handy knife. You can open and close it with one hand.
This is the one I have:

The serrated portions a big plus.
