I think the mandatory passport thing has been moved to 12/31/08 or something... It does make it a lot easier though... Otherwise you have to take a picture ID and your birth certificate. Most of the islands make you show both of them to get back onto the dock where the cruise ship is. At least with the passport, you only have one thing to keep up with.
