Apples to Apples is the greatest game I've ever played... Seriously.
It's incredibly simple but has infinite depth because it constantly adapts to fit the minds of whoever is playing it; it's genius.
The game is played with four or more people. Each player draws seven red cards, which are nouns. Players take turns being the judge; the judge flips over a green card, which is an adjective. The other players each play a card in their hand; the judge picks the card that is most relevant, humorous or disconcordant, and whoever's card is picked gets the green card. The player with the most green cards wins.
The game brings up moments that are hilarious. The green card could be "Temperamental". The first red card is "**** Germany". Pretty temperamental. The second card is "James Brown", which may or may not be more temperamental than **** Germany. But then the third card is Pop Corn. What card wins? It depends on the mood of the players and the mentality of the judge.

No, I'm pretty sure that's Go. Or Bridge. Or Reversi. Or Backgammon.
Chess is an esoteric game with overly-specialized rules and no elegance. It is less mentally challenging than other games that are orders of magnitude more simple; that's the hallmark of a Geek game, not a Man game.
