I aint no expert by any means here, but until somebody else chimes in that knows more I will give it my best shot here. The 32 or 64 bit I beleive depends on your monitor and not the Windows XP program. It all depends on what your monitor supports for colors. I run XP but I have a 10 year old monitor so I'm still runnin 32 bit.
This is if I'm understanding what your lookin for. Just go to Start
Control Panel
Appearances
Settings.
In settings it will give you the options that your montior will support.

Also you have to have a 64bit processor to run Windows XP (or any other OS) in 64bit. [and trust me if you paid for a 64bit processor you'd know it]
To see exactly what you are running open the system properties (either from control panel or right-click on the My Computer from the start menu).
