If you buy a DELL, really haggle on the price. 30% markup compared to HP or Toshiba. I feel that DELL is not that well made. Personally, I would not get a DELL. Look at the HP 8730 or the Toshiba. Also look at the Lenovo W500 series, as that is designed for CAD/CAM users.
Most business or enterprise level laptops can be bought with XP; you just have to ask for it.

i have the toshiba satallite with the duo core processor 4 gigs of ram 360gig hd high def i love it

Loving this laptop so far. Vista seems pretty nice but Windows 7 will be out soon

If anyone else is looking, a few good sites to keep in mind are

newegg.com
ecost.com

Ecost usually has the best deals if you know what to look for. They do have a lot of refurbs; but, you can get an extra warranty. Plus we have never had any trouble with any of their stuff.

I would agree with the above comments about which ones to get. If any of you have any questions, please ask. I hate it when a person spends too much or doesn't get the best available (RSWORDS, you did good!).

The only laptops I ever see myself buying again are ruggedized notebooks.

They all got small screens, though...
