It's 'stunting' or something...you're not supposed to warn other drivers.

I'm not sure if this is true, I'll have to read up on the laws again. I know there is some strange law about flashing lights while driving down the road, but I'm not sure what it is called.

I used to do it up until a couple of years ago. Then over in NY and CA (I think) there were some people gunned down because they flashed there lights at someone. They (PD) told us it was a gang initiation or something. Also at night the gang members would run with the headlights off, and if you flashed them they would gun you down, and anyone in the vehicle. I haven't heard anything about this in the last couple of years, but you never know.

yeah i heard about that too about the gangs, i think the reason they can pull you over is maybe like obstruction of justice or something like that...

This is from a cops only website that I belong too:

I’m not aware of any law in any state that proscribes telling other people about the presence of a uniformed police officer, whether the officer is doing speed enforcement or anything else. Cell phones, truckers on CB radios, even waves out the window have been used for years to warn of what you call speed traps.

However, there are laws in some states against flashing your lights or, more specifically, failing to dim your high beams for oncoming traffic. Vermont does not have either one of these laws. If you were to flash your high beams to warn other drivers and an officer in one of these states saw it, it is probably going to annoy the officer (yes, we get annoyed) because he knows the real reason you are doing it. The officer may pull you over and give you a ticket for inappropriately using your lights, if such a law exists. Personally, I think flashing each other to warn speeders to slow down is great, because it takes the enforcement effort of the officer and multiplies it exponentially.

Now on to your next question. The primary purpose of speed enforcement, and all traffic enforcement for that matter, is to reduce accidents and injuries and promote the smooth and efficient flow of traffic on our streets. A secondary benefit is that it gets officers out into the public contacting citizens, albeit in an enforcement setting, which is a good thing. Finally, it is a revenue generator. There is no denying that part of traffic enforcement and writing tickets is generating revenue, but that is not the main goal. If you look at the state and town budgets, it even has a line item under revenue.

Yeah, the last paragraph is the best... The point of enforcing traffic laws is to produce revenue, safety is a good excuse for it, but it all boils down to money.

You would be surprised at the number of "gang members" or should I say "want-to-be-gang-members" in Arkansas. Now maybe not in your town, but around
Little Rock, Pine Bluff, Jonesboro, Fayetteville, Fort Smith
Mostly, there are some outside of these areas, just not as much.

Yes I know my way around AR, I was born in Harrison, AR.

Correct me if I wrong, but isn't Yellville, between Hassison, and Mt. Home ??

thats the truth..
it's obvious too... i live on a small town on peninsula. so even is some one is alluding. where they gonna go? we still have the big crown vic's and we just bought a charger with a hemi.

the cops say "nothing out runs the motorola" well if thats true why don't they drive more economical cars? they endanger peoples lives when driving 65 in a 35 just like any motorist.
sure they have lights and sirens... so if i put lights and sirens on my truck i can drive 65 in a 35? of course not. same with multi tasking.. they want to stop driving and talking on cell phones.. but cops have computers, lights, sirens and radios to operate..
but they are concerned about cell phones?

Well it is true that nothing can out run a radio, but that doesn't mean they can't still get away. Yes I will agree that they also endanger people while in pursuit of someone. That is why if the pursuit does get to dangerous, they will be ordered to back off a little. Yes the lights and sirens help to alert people to the officers whereabouts, but there is a lot of people that just don't care, or don't listen to the siren. The police officers over in NY are not allowed to talk on there cell phones while driving, just like everyone else. Now I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, but they are not allowed. The Department had to buy headsets for everyone that had a department cellphone. While driving down the road, I never used the laptop in my car, only when I was parked somewhere would I start typing on it, now I'm not saying that it doesn't happen (I would guess it doesn't, but it might)

My whole thing about this cell phone ban, is they did studies on it and more people were involved in a vehicle accident changing the station on there radio then there was accidents from cell phones. Now don't get me wrong, yes some people should not talk and drive at the same time, they are doing good just to drive.

Just my 2 cents !!!
