I got an HP laptop running windows vista - mine is like that. Volume all the way up and movies are still hard to hear. Music and other sounds are good. All of mine play thru Windows Media Player so I don't know what the prob is. I have a small set of external speakers that I hooked up and all is good. Just sucks unhooking them whenever I need to go to a different room with the laptop.
