i took Tae Kwon Do for ~4 years. got my 1st deg. Black belt and became a trainee instructor and then life and work got in the way. it helped me put on a few pounds, i gained 30lbs in the first 3 months of doing this but my size didn't increase. it was all muscle it helped me in school, gave me more confidence and was cool as hell to be able to break 5-6" of boards with my elbow, fist, or foot.

My cousin was in the paper for being the youngest to have a black belt. (back in mid 90's) Well needless to say, He uses his karate to full advantage at the bars now. haha I thought it taught ya self discipline but boy was i wrong. If somebody gives him a attitude....needless to say where out looking to get into another bar.

My 12 Y.O. Daughter is a red-belt in Taekwondo. It is the greatest sport I have ever gotten her in to.

Dicipline, Confidence, and Respect.

That is awesome - he will enjoy it. Is this Tae Kwon Do or a mixed style?

If he likes this and pursues it, as he gets older, the choice of instructor becomes more important.
