Yeah uh... Clean the thing a couple of times a season. Its just safer, and you'll stay warmer with less wood. I burn, and I cut commercially. If you clean it 3x a season you can save a third of a cord of wood.

hey as long as DB is still up and running I'm okay with your chimney burning your house down I'm mostly kidding...

every heard of this thing called a chimney sweep?? it's a big wire brush with a threaded end so you can add rods to it as you run it down the chimney, so as not to burn your house down! My dad has me climb on the roof at his place once a year; even burning a wood stove with a catalytic plate and dry wood it still gets some buildup now and then. seriously though, I'm glad your house didn't burn down!

We're in for some lowwww temps the next few days so im sure i'll be burnin plenty. Dang arabs aint gettin my $$$ for oil

What's everybodys opinions on burnin seasoned pine. We have piles of cut seasoned pine logs that are just sittin there. I've always been told not to burn pine but i've read that it's one of the higher BTU producers??
I know people that burn it but they put 1 or 2 pieces in with the rest seasoned hardwood.

That is the nice thing about my outdoor wood boiler. I just drag a tree over to it cut it and split it then burn it. no problemo

Yeah, you CAN do that, but its much more efficient if you use seasoned hardwoods. And with all the regulations they are putting up on OWB, you're better off running good stuff in the long run, because sooner or later enough people will complain about the smoke/smell and then you're in trouble...

piney, any way you can draw outside air to your new intake for the stove, that way you burn outside air, not air you already heated.

piney we've burned a fair amount of seasoned pine in the stove with no problems. eucalyptus seems to be our favorite, burns slow and hot so it's pretty clean.

mccall, talk about regulations, we have 'no burn days' regulated by the Air Resources Board. even on the 'okay to burn' days, there's a list of what type of EPA approved stove/fireplace is okay to use and the condition of wood/solid fuel we're technically allowed to burn at this point, only burning on 'no burn days' is cited by law enforcement. a new home can not have a wood burning fireplace/stove installed. no really, though, we're supposed to get online or call to check and see if it's a no burn day or not...unless it's the only primary source of heat functioning in the house.

Thats absurd... If that crap keeps up and starts spreading to other states we'll have 2 countries real quick... Because I sure wouldn't put up with it.

Please don't burn tires... ever... Its not just bad for the environment (I'm not an environmentalist, but when the Indians burned tires on the NYS Thruway a few years back, it choked out a lot of stuff), but there are already regulations in OH that are limiting who can use them, and where. Its guys like you, burning tires, who are ruining it for everyone else who is burning good wood.
