Dig With Care... Ask Me How I Know...

The article said that it was a ruptured line. Hopefully that was it and no diggers. Whatever it was, I'm sure that the explosion was nothing that I would want to be next to. I'm assuming from the article that the line ruptured and a while later the escaping gas was ignited from a external source. Talk about a large FAE.

It was in Appomattox, Virginia
Dieseldent was correct - that explosion occurred in Appomattox, Virginia on Sunday, 14 September. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but obviously some people were left homeless. Mailboxes and street signs melted from the heat. Appomattox Gas Line Explosion, Update
Those aerial photos are amazing - you really can see the extent of the damage.

One -Call Service you can dial 811 now!
I have recently built a shopping center beside a high-pressure 24" and 36" gas line. Believe me I knew they were there! It is clearly marked. Plus I NEVER start a job without calling the ONE-CALL SERVICE FIRST! Also there are fly overs done once a week! so they know you are there!
