... First job I ever "tried out for" in my life was that of a welder. At the time, the Big Alaska Oil Rush was under way, and I remember hearing of an unbelievable $25/hr. (woop tee doo)
Well, there was a reason for the "high pay" back in the 70's – It was because it was remote, but even more so, it was just plain horrible conditions. I imagine, it has to be just plain miserable looking through an opaque shield for 8 or more hours a day burning rod. But hey, if it's a way to keep your family fed, you have my support
