That's true to an extent however the US refineries are set up to extract more gasoline than diesel and it would apparently be very costly to try and change them over. This is one of the main reasons that diesel is so expensive. Seemingly, we have plenty of diesel but the perceived shortage by speculators is what is killing us right now.

 

I live 30 mins from the largest refinery on this side of the country , but we have seemingly the highest fuel prices on the continent?

 

I live 10 minutes from big refineries and the prices arent much cheaper.
