turnin up a detroit
Got a 2006 western star at work with a series 60 in it, supposed to be rated at 515 hp, but the old n14 runs right by it on a hill. anyone got a way to turn it up some without going in for a re-rate ( boss wont pay for that)
Let me know! the truck has a big drivetrain under it , 46000 rears , 18 speed, big u joints, so it will take the power.

$70 at tours to remember(bus garage) in moncton beside armour, the guy with the computer worked for detroit for 20 yrs,he did my armour volvo when I got it ,now I pull away from armour trucks when I am loaded and they are empty, that is the only way I know of without a chip and they are definatly not cheap for a big truck

a 60 series in "stock" form with factory parts can be rated up to 600hp but they come in different variations, from 370 hp for an older one to 550 hp for the newer on road ones ,all depends on the injectors, cam, turbo and tune in the computer, have seen modified trucks over 1000hp they all come from the factory with 1850 to 2100 lb/ft of torque,All the aftermarket boxes for these engines are nice but they are priced WAY TO HIGH to make it practical for a hired driver to purchase for a company truck and most o/o don't have the money to spend on them,I searched last yr for one and they were in the$2000 to$6000 dollar price range and the $2000 one were nothing more then a boost fooler/resistor so I just took mine to a shop and had it turned up on the factory computer from 370hp(was fleet truck) to 430hp(max for my setup) and my fuel mileage went up about 1-1.5 mpg and lots more usable power

max series 60 factory rating is 515 for ddec V on highway. non egr 60's were as high at 550. industrial and marine can go as high as 800. your at the max for your 06 w.s. if you want more you will need a industrial s/n and injectors and turbo. then you will have a problem with keeping it cool. you can set cal codes to 75 but that will mess with the egr system.

Well i have an 05, and im working on deleteing the egr along with a few other companies, PDI in UTAH will flash the ECM so you can take it all off along with the turbo and have some good HP, but it is way over priced(2500.00) since they are the only ones who seem to be able to do it so far. Bruce Malison at Pittsburg Power is doing an 05 now in his shop and i will post when i have more info on it.They have already done a DDEC4 just working on the DDEC5, since the 05 and up has a totally differnt ecm. If it was a pre EGR engine i can get you all the power you want for under $500.00, but the new ones are way to complicated to do that.
