I have driven a couple detriots sence and couldnt average over 4.7, they pulled OK. But nothing like every Cummins I have driven. Had a C-15 Cat twin turbo in my company Werner trucks and a log truck that wernt too bad, but either detuned or just the wrong transmission. Anything under a 13 should be banned.
Yeh, that Ohio speed limit has GOT TO GO. It really makes the four-wheelers mad when two big trucks pass eachother there. They are the voters and taxpayers in that state, I don't know why they don't do somethin about it. We were talkin about the speed and fuel mileage issue the other day on the radio, and I told a guy I burnt more fuel in Ohio runnin 55 than I would runnin 75. He tried to tell me that was "impossible". Probably because he's never been in a big truck that would run 75, much less 125, but beside the point. I told him to go do some reading about engines and gearing, then get back with me.

Sometimes they're cool about it, got to watch Indiana too. Learned that the hard way, got DOT inspected and a speeding ticket fo 70/65. Cost me $115 dollars for the speeding. Gotta love them driving awards

I'm looking into buying a 85 W900B w/ a big cam IV 400 hp engine. I've posted else where about it. It's black smoking. Had a sudden loss of power. Oil smells of fuel. Thinking turbo. Gonna buy it and see about putting some power to it if I can just find out how to. Let alone make time to go get it and figure out what is going on with it.

you can get some pretty impressive power out of the big cam engines, hang a good turbo and turn the fuel up a bit and it will be pleasant. If it started black smoking all at once it prolly is the turbo or an intake hose

I have an 81 Peterbilt with a big cam 400. I have had several trucks and tractors with Cummins', but this one seems a little doggy.

2007 Pete Short nose with Cummins ISX set at 475hp. Love my Cummins! Almost wish I hadn't stopped driving, but honestly I like being home!

Also have driven the 670 Volvo's with the ISX, loved both trucks! I know, I know, Volvo is for whimps, but I didn't start having hearing problems until I drove a Pete around for a year!

Default 1981 359 Peterbilt

Any Cummins Truckers-034.jpg
My 1981 359 Peterbilt that I restored last winter.
Big Cam 400 Cummins
13 spd
Wheelbase was shortened from 237" to 208".
Motor was overhauled before I bought the truck, but it is not as powerful as other Cummins' I have driven. Any advice on what to do about that would be appreciated.
