Stereo in a Peterbilt

Stereo in a Peterbilt
So I wired up my old Alpine tape deck and got it working in my Peterbilt. Didn't want to spend money; at least this way, I can listen to radio and tapes.
I do want to upgrade eventually. Really like Alpine's stuff, but some of the capabilities I want they are way out of their mind on ($185 extra for bluetooth ON TOP of the cost of the head unit?)
What I'm looking for is basically:
Pioneer makes a unit that does all of the above for under $200. Unfortunately, it has an awful joystick-based interface that I just can't deal with. So are there other good options out there, or do I need to bite the bullet and pay Alpine's ransom to get Bluetooth?
Also -- think I could use the storage box on the passenger side (under the bunk) for a subwoofer?
Oh, and if anyone from Peterbilt happens to read this: If two harnesses are wired differently, use different connectors! I almost fried my stereo by accidentally plugging into a harness that had +12V and ground swapped!
