Caps are a band aid on a bigger problem first I would crank your system up at the max volume you listen to it at and check the voltage at the amp terminals. If you are with in 12V-13V your ok, but over 13V is good 14V best.

I upgraded my stock Premium Bose to the LUX Bose from an Escalade then added a 200w Punch with a single Rockford P2 10".

I am a firm believer in caps. I dont see how they are a band aid. what else are you going to do? I know some vehicles offer a higher than stock ampereage alternator but I havent seen one that is over 20-30 amps higher that is a bolt on.
when you lights dim when the base hits its because your alternator is either going south or it cant keep up with the demand your system requires.
running a big sound system will shorten the life of your alternator period. thats why I use a capacitor to save my alternator.
if your alternator is going south then yes it is a band aid.

You can just run it off a separate power supply if it is a concern That is going to be my next stereo mod.

It is a band aid a cap is just a battery so the only thing your doing in increasing your storage capacity. Most alt can be rewound for more then a 30 amp extra if not why would you risk your stereo equipment when all you need to do is make a new bracket to mount a bigger alt. They do help with SQ some but that is it.

Some reading for ya on why caps are bad.

Running a Cap is no different than putting a lift pump on a DMax. A Cap is a quick discharge and regenerating storage device that takes the strain off the main power system. It takes an alternator less power to keep a Cap charged than than take a constant repeated hit. If Cap's were bad we wouldnt use them in any electronic device. They are used because of the tremendous benefits and all the major car stereo champions use them in addition to upgraded power systems.

I read through all of the dribble and basically they said exactly what I said.
If used for what a cap is intended then its fine. but if your electrical system sucks than its a band aid.

Ive got infinity 61/2s up front 4x6s in the rear exlode head unit got a alpine 9885 head unit comming tommorow, 12'' MTX 9500 with 1200rms going to it with a 2farad cap feeding the amp. Ive got a 800watt 4 channel amp for the speakers that I just need to put in. And thats just the chebby. theres a DUAL head unit with xplode speakers all around and two 10w3s in the dodge.

I like the chevys system alot better than the dodge but the dode was my first setup and I learned from my mistakes. I excited to get the apline head unit tommorow and see how it is.
