Help with LED lighting purchase
#11
No doubt I will do that. There are 4 lights I am looking at from this company that the youtube link is from and the light output from these lights are 17,000lumens all the way to 24,400lumens they also use high quality cree leds in there lights with is a very good thing to know. I will keep you guys posted on what I find out and if anyone has questions just ask.

That is some impressive lights. wish they had versions that replaced stock headlights. I would get those.
If it matters HID is still more efficient and cheaper. I have 360 watts of HID goodness on my truck now. Combination of 55w and 35w, 6 forward and two rear facing. Real nice when driving on back roads with no street lights.

I have some prices on the lights now. neither companys want to sell the lights unless i want to puchase more 10 at a time but they said they would make an exception because i expalined i wanted to buy 1 to see how it is and buy more .
Anyways 1 of the companys wants $285 plus $88 shipping and another $13 for paypal (this is the company that I was looking at for awhile and seam to have a good product, 240w, 42" 19,000 lumens (according to them) but does not come with wiring harness or any real proof that there lights are high quality and durable.
As for the second company (the one that I posted the youtube link of how durable there lights are) is asking $618 shipped to my front door, but this price is including a upcharge of $20 dollars for a small order and also they include the wiring harness and proof that there lights are durable and high quality. They claim this light has 17,500lumens (a more promising number then the other company) and is 40" long.
Both companys claim ther lights use 3w cree leds
After looking over both companys images I find that the second companys lights seam to be more well constructed through the lense. They both seam to use the same alum casing but they do have diffrent reflectors and most likely diffrent leds then eachother.

LEDs do put out heat, especially the higher wattage ones. there is a big difference between 100 lumen tail lights and 17k+ lumen head lights.
i have worked with lots of LEDs from milliwatt to 30+ watt single-die and multi-die LEDs. i am well aware of the heat generated from high powered LEDs.
3 watt LEDS will get hot without adequate cooling.
i dont know how much surface area those lights have but i would say they need at least 320 square inches to stay cool and not over heat
