Default Rough Idle

I have a 90 7.3idi that I picked up in a trade and the truck runs rough at idle and today while driving seemed to be missing a little. Stoped at a red light and it seemed to rpm up and then died took several attemps to crank. The tank was down to 1/4 stoped to fill up and now it seems to run fine. One time prior to fueling today when taking off truck seemed to stall out like it needed more fuel. I am wondering if the fuel lifter is getting weak no visiable leaks.
Thanks for the help in advance.
Tim

nope. you said the magic number. 1/4 tank and it dies. you fuel pickup is broken off. very common.

rough at idle can be many things. IP, injectors, compression.

Default fuel pickup question

I will just keep it above 1/4 tank till I either find or build a flat bed for this truck not going to pull old bed just to fix.
Now important question is this a item that can be purchased from parts store or is there another way to fix with out purchasing a new item.

to repair the pickup tube, a new "showerhead" can be bought from ford still.

I have a 91 F350 with 290,000 plus and still a good truck so I want to put this one back into good shape and install a flat bed and get a paint job old trucks motor is in good shape just hasnt been maintained like it should have been and now little things are taking there toll on it. I will be asking lost more questions as this project takes feet .
