I have a leak were the dipstick goes into the pan but i noticed that the big nut that is suppost to be on there is not and by the looks of it someone just put a whole bunch of rtv on there so i am wondering if that other piece on the inside of the pan fell inside, so my question is should i pull it apart with caution assuming the inside piece is still attatched and get all new parts and fix it right or should i just try to put more rtv on there??? the leak is not super bad but i have noticed it has gotten worse.

 

Similar thread on the 99-03 board, apparently Riffraff and Strictly Diesel make kits to fix those, I don't know if they'll fit your application also. Check out the OIL PAN NIGHTMARE thread for more info, I'm computer illiterate.

 

If it's still leaking with the rtv, that's not good. Motor has to come out to fix the issue... I think Joe's leaks and he has rtv holding it now... A buddy of mines leaks and he just keeps an eye on it... Like said above strictly has the part you need. It's like 300 bucks i think. The Riffraff one is just a fixit kit but is alot cheaper and motor doesn't have to come out..

check with international, they sell a fix kit that alows you to fix that problem without pulling the engine, the kit consists of some super wanny int. silicone, a gasket and gasket eliminator. you will need to sorce the nut that is suposed to be on there. pull the dipstick tube, shove a small round bristle brush into the adapter to keep it from falling into the pan and zip ty the brush to something to hold in place. then remove all the silicone, clean the outside of the pan, spread the gasket eliminator around the adapter on the pan, place new gasket around adapter (will stay in place on the pan due to gasket eliminator, threat on large nut (do not over torque, I believe it was around 30-35 lbs, then spreat new silocone around nut and threads. this sounds really oaky but it was the fix created by international and it works great, did mine a year ago and 20,000 miles and not a drop has leaked.
