I just joined today and had a few questions. Also today I just purchased tires for my F-450 dually. The tires i purchased were Hercules brand. The rears were H702 (225 70R 19.5) and not sure on the front (Same size as rears, but steer tires). I had used the balance bag beads because they had no balance machine and did not offer it anyway. When I drove away there was considerable vibrations over what was installed before. The tires that came off were balanced with weights on the rims. On the drive home I hit the interstate right away and was going roughly 65. After a few miles the ride smoothed out and was some what acceptable. However I still felt a little vibration in the seat and hardly none in the wheel. I am hoping it gets better with time. The real issue I had though was how the truck felt on the road. For lack of better terminology, it felt loose. When I say this i mean, if you were to correct the truck one way or the other it felt as if it was sliding instead of rolling. Also it felt like wagging the dog, meaning it continued back and forth from right to left. Continually feeling loose. Now i realize I have considerably more tread than the old with almost a half an inch. As well you can grab the tread with finger tips and move it around. I assume this is why it feels loose or should I be looking at something else causing it? The rims are steel, bud kinda style. Has anyone else experienced this and will it eventually get better as the tires wear? I am moving to Kansas soon and planned on pulling a trailer with this truck towing my prized possession, 1973 Nova. It is making me a little nervous to say the least.

I have had tires before that gave that loose feeling when new, it usually goes away after the wear a little. Bad news is I've never been impressed with hercules tires.

 

I have the same problem with dunlop tires I bought. Makes it feel like your driving on ice, and has a considerable amount of vibration. Sucks, you give alot of money for a good set of tires and they make your truck ride like a pile of sh*t.

 

Find a shop that can perform a dynamic spin balance on your tires. Unfortunately, they'll have to dismount your tires to remove the beads.
Personally, I've never been a fan of balance beads, had quite a few drivers bring in their trucks to have us remove the beads and balance their tires with sticks-on weights. The beads only compensate for a set amount of weight in the best circumstances, without spinning the tires on a balanced, you don’t know how far out of balance the tire is.
