Default Veggie Oil Conversion?

I have a 94 F350 7.3 idi turbo. It has the dual tanks and I was thinking about converting the rear diesel tank to vegetable oil. Has anyone done this and have any pros/cons or recommendations about it?

Thanks

Talked to some guys on the "frybrid" site. From what I understand, all that's needed is a tank heater and possibly an inline heater. And a good filter. According to some, there is no conversion. They just run WVO in one tank and diesel for starting in the other. I haven't tried it yet due to being on the road all the time. Others run diesel/WVO mixes. Good luck and keep me posted.

just make darn sure you filter your oil down between 5 and 1 micron! the guy who installed my system says 30 microns is sufficient but just wait for me to post the photo of my clogged injector pump filter that is about 6 microns and the size of a thimble ! no need to post the name of the company cuz those of you who have heard my rants already know the name!
it was expensive to fix, and i also learned that not everyone who thinks they know what they are talking about knows what they are talking about !

WVO isn't a fuel. Its very harmful to your engine and its illegal. No amount of filtering or heating will change either of those facts. The only way it can be made safe and legal is to convert the fuel to biodiesel.

Convert the fuel to the engine, not the engine to the fuel.

Well, you raise sort of a valid point, but remember Rudolph Diesel ran his first diesel engine at the world fair in paris on peanut oil....I understand these newer engines are much different however I have a friend in Fresno Ca. who has been running strait Vegetable Oil in his 83 6.9 F 350 for 5 yrs now with a home made system using a 5 gal bucket for a fuel tank for 5 yrs now with no problem at all especially since I introduced him to 5 and 1 micron sock filters in stead of a sheet. now he nor I am having any problems with his 6.9 or my 94 7.3 IDI Turbo, it runs better on oil than diesel especially when the oil temp gets really hot !

Actually thats wrong, Dr. Diesel ran his first engine on coal dust.
Second, it doesn't matter what he ran his engine on. He had no involvement in the design or development of International's engines.
Last I checked, the 6.9 and 7.3 weren't 20' tall with compressed air powered fuel injection and a maximum speed of less than 200rpm.

And I have an uncle that lives homeless in San Luis Obispo and has been doing illegal drugs for the last 35 years. Does that mean its safe for everyone to do drugs?
Just because person X knows person Y who does Z doesn't mean its a smart thing for other people to do.

Wow seems to have touched a nerve there. Why so sensitive? Several people run wvo without issue. I'm not trying to poke the bear, but why are you so against it? I'm just gathering info on what direction I want to go. Also how is it illegal? I'd imagine because your not paying tax on it? But you are not paying tax on Bio either

I would like to focus on the original topic of this man wanting to burn WVO and the legalities of it...as I said I and a friend with a 6.9 have been running oil with no damage to engine, as far as being legal....I have heard of several cases of people fighting it out in court and the WVO guys winning on the simple fact that basically their vehicles are hybrids, and if they are illegal wrong doers then so is everyone who is running bio fuel, flex fuel vehicles and electric cars ! and the case is closed !

what ever you do.....filter your oil good and enjoy your deep fried pistons !

Here is a photo of the small filter in my Injector Pump ! Yeah Go Veg Powered Systems of ojai Ca ! PHHTTTTTT !

And this is my version of a tank filler with a 7" x 16" one micron filter sock, this is how I think a fill hole should function....I save my oil in 5 gal buckets and pour it right in without spilling a drop,,,the only draw back is the cap is plastic PVC and just sits on top but no slosh leaking because of the filter sock hangin in there but I wish it was threaded.

I have been running waste motor oil mixed with my diesel and have been running that for over a year.... just not in the winter due to cold settling... but other than that 18 mpg or more 7.3 IDI 4 spd.....I would love to get some veggie oil for this summer if anyone in the tacoma area has any bio or veggie fuel for sale or knows anyone...

3: Biodiesel was invented specifically to fix all SVO/WVO's problems.

Also how is it illegal?
Its not a fuel so its not approved for on-highway use by the EPA or DOT.
Certification for either is impossible since WVO can't be standardized like Biodiesel. To date no "conversion" company has even attempted to get their "conversion" legalized by the EPA or DOT.

Thats FAR worse than WVO.
1: Its extremely polluting
2: Soot is an abrasive, it will drastically reduce your pump and injector lifespan.
3: Engine oil has additives specifically to prevent as much of it as possible from burning (Thats why the oil on your cylinder walls doesn't burn off every time the cylinder fires).
