So I read trough this thread and I'm getting tired of all this false and true stories.
I guess it is time for some background info.

Yes, Mr. Diesels first engine was running on coal dust- and exploded. So he used peanut oil which was more controllable.
You can see both engines in the tech museum in Berlin and Munich, Germany.

There might be two sides of view:
-the technical view
and
-the law view
I try to avoid the law view- VO was and still could be used as food. How can food be hazmat?

We have a bunch of sites in germany- just talking about the use of WVO and of course, using it.
As a fact it works as long as you obey a couple of rules.

If you don't obey them your IP will be damaged- caused by suction and low viscosity.

Even the german government runs a fleet of WVO trucks to prove the possibility of the use.

The rules:

- Use a dual fuel tank arrangement.

- Start with diesel until the engine is warmed up to operational temperatures.

- Switch over to filtered WVO. Did I mention filtered?

- WVO must be heated by coolant heat exchangers. Remember: WVO has a viscosity close to diesel at 212°F! The more heat you can transfer the thinner the viscosity.

- Fuel lines+ IP must be purged before reaching the final destination to ensure the next start is done with pure diesel

- Fuel lines must be enlarged, to enable flow

- Suction must be observed- it is an early indicator for a clogged fuel filter

- The IP must be advanced to compensate the delay in ignition.

All these tricks are tested by german drivers. They work very well on IDI engines.

Of course there was fail- mostly caused by cold WVO- suction can lead to broken pressure plungers. Secondly caused by non advanced IP's.

French fries? Yes, I was able to smell a lot of cars in front of me. Some business guys were doing this over a distance 60.000 miles per year- just using the old McWVO...

Waste Disposal semis are running WVO- you can see the dual tank arrangement - because they want you to see this!

Sometimes you should look over the horizon, Whargoul...

Whargoul Thanks for your input, it will be considered & noted. By the way, your video has no connection to lighting a charcoal brick soaked in diesel and one soaked in veggie oil.

You live by rules alone, I live by common sense.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Why isn't VO recognized by EPA as a fuel? Well lets see....Crude oil pays taxes. Billions in taxes. How does the Govt make money? Taxes. Taxes therefore fund the EPA and their salaries. You can't tell me oil doesn't play any role in a Governments decision making process.

The EPA won't even look at a possible fuel that won't make them billions in taxes, its too much of a bother.

The EPA and their decisions? A toyota prius gets 50 mpg tops, while great European diesels get 70+ mpg, yet the EPA deems them as polluters, while rest of the world embraces these cars.

Somehow the EPA will tell you that putting the exhaust of a 50 mpg car in the environment is less harmful to the environment than a 70 mpg car.

Multiply the trips and fuel burned by those cars by a couple million, there is no way the 70 mpg car is dirtier than the 50mpg car. Less fuel burned is less fuel burned. Common sense.

Their rules say that if you eat 3 more boxes of diet cookies, you'll be skinny as a rail. "Garfield the cat"
I say don't eat those cookies. Let us have those 70 MPG CARS!

Oh yes VO.... none of us are saying that VO should or can replace diesel, we just want a choice if that opportunity is within OUR reach. You can continue with whatever your rule book tells you to do.

Our troops have fought for our freedom, we should be able to live in freedom.

Correct. Your truck will not spontaneously fail if you use ULSD. The fuel would not have been allowed to market if it caused damage to engines.
Unlike SVO and WVO, diesel and gasoline must meet industry standards for lubricity and chemical structure.

Mine has been using ULSD since day 1 it was on the market (2006) and it still has the stock pump.

I should hope a 2006 can still run on todays diesel, but what about an 80's diesel engine? It's like running the old leaded car on unleaded, it didn't work well, they needed additives to keep from knocking.

Sorry, neither will save your life and neither will ignite.I didn't say they would IGNITE
1: Grenades cause damage with fragmentation debris, not heat or pressure wave like conventional explosives. But taking it like a man would kill you.
2: Water is heavier than diesel and VO. The human body is 90% water. Unless that tank is less than 10' deep and/or you just happen to be wearing a life jacket, you would drown in both.
2b: If both are less than 10' deep and/or you just happen to be wearing a life jacket, you would be equally safe in either tank.
You miss the point, would YOU rather dive into a tank of diesel or veggie oil? Why?

False. Law is not political. As has been stated many many times here, if you believe WVO is a fuel and can be registered as such, whats stopping you or anyone else from doing it? WVO has been around since the creation of the EPA, I have books from the 70's about it. Why hasn't it been done?TAXES

You would legally be able to do so because you're on private property and not our roads.
As stated above; "Fuel intended for use exclusively in off-road vehicles, engines, or equipment is not required to be registered."

I am just saying that the engine will run very well on VO and for many years, NEVER MIND THE LEGALITIES.

I assume you mean "waste", but, again, no such thing.
100% efficiency is impossible in anything. There will always be heat, friction, energy production byproducts, material extraction consumption and manufacturing consumption.

But my Government promotes zero waste, so if my Government says its so....Its so (Like your rules from the EPA)

Hey, hey, hey we did not talk about primary fuel sources.
We know it is just a slot between all the other possibilities to drive a diesel engine.

All I'm saying is there is enough WVO for some to burn it.- It's done everywhere.
There are some places in the world where Diesel costs as much as 7.35$ per gallon. So by nature humans do seek for cheaper alternatives.
We have a lot of so called veggie burners- no wonder a gallon of veggie is 50% cheaper than diesel.
So it pays off if you have to travel long distances.

Whargoul- wachting over the horizon is a simile.
A lot of things totally unknown is the US are used on a daily basis in Europe. Obviously you havn't been there. The smell of fries is a normal thing over there.

Common sense cannot be explained. If you don't know how fat, glycerin and oxidation are harmful to an injection system and engine then there is nothing that can explain it in simple enough terms for simpletons to grasp.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---
Where did oxidation come from? Now you're adding things. The only part of my factory fuel system that WVO even touches is the insides of the heads and the injectors themselves... so again, I ask, what is this damaging. If I know so little, why don't you please explain this to me, I'm here to learn.

I don't deny that WVO by itself has some form of acidity, it's there, I know it, but it's not harming anything. Fat? Probably some, whatever is left after filtration, but it burns just fine. Glycerin? Why wouldn't that just burn? Some of this stuff is mucho important for bio users, but NOT WVO users... You keep telling me it's bad but can't tell me why, a little of the pot calling the kettle black here. You make it seem like you know so much but can't bother to take the time to teach anyone anything. What is it you're offering us here other than negativity?

When diesel hits $1.40 a liter and Veggie is at $ 1.20 liter, I will be adding a second tank, heaters, filters and run new veggie oil.
